White Dog called out to the rest of the White Dog Army panting in anticipation in the back of Pumpkin, "Everybody know what they want?" There was a flurry of answers and then WD hushed the group and pushed the button at Sonic."Welcome to Sonic. Can I take your order, please?" White Dog cleared her throat, looked over her shoulder at me and began: "We will have six double cheeseburgers with no condiments except pickles on one (YoYoMa squirmed as HIS burger was singled out); three orders of chili cheese fries; an order of french fries, two orders of tots; a plain hot dog; a vanilla shake; two strawberry cream slushes; a root bear float; a banana shake...."
At this point I leaned over and said into the speaker, "She means we will have one plain hamburger, an order of popcorn chicken, two chili cheese tots and a large iced tea. Yes, that will be all." There was a heavy sigh and WD shot me "the look" which she quickly concealed not daring to risk having no part in the treats.
Steve got back into the van in the back seat so he could share when the order arrived. "Why is everyone so glum?" "They're not. They are just wrapping their White Floofy heads around a new reality. They will be fine when the food arrives."
Not only were things fine, but the server on roller blades brought out four extra large milkbones with the order. We saved them to take home (again, to sighs). But the White Dogs all volunteered for guard duty when we made an extra stop on the way home to carry out palettas--coconut cream and pistachio--to share with Quinn and Nuka when we returned home. They kept eyes on the bag of frozen goodies on the drive, and when we got home, no one wanted to exit the car before the bag did (I think they feared I would lock myself in the air conditioned van and gobble them all down)!
Steve conjured a doglicious "sundae" of crumbled dog biscuit covered with chopped up palettas...there was not a single complaint!
