I open the morning news, print version, paper, ink. Assembled by an ink stained wretch of long forgotten fictional past. I run the paper in reverse order, sports --Not being a fan , nor a gambler has its advantages as I do not need to dwell in the sports section. I only need to see what is there and if there is interest. Then to the local news, which also contains the obits. Local was pretty dismal today as it detailed an unusually high assortment of assaults and break ins and more than a couple of shootings. (what is up with that--a trend is developing and it sure does not look good) but they did apprehend a burglar a couple of blocks from home. I had to read about that as it was all the talk of the neighborhood yesterday as reverse 911 calls had alerted residents to the fact that the army of police were in fact chasing a suspect through our collective back yards. This moring the paper carried a photo of a shirtless , heavily muscled and more heavily tattooed man, whose menacing appearance speaks to a sure conviction.
Then onto Better living, you know the comic strips of which I now follow a mere 5 out of 20 offerings. Better living has the light fare, diet, exercise, what to do on weekends.
Lastly the news and front section. No more Jerry Sandusky stories, thankfully. Immigration story has taken hold. So I head back to the Op-Ed Page and there I find an Op Ed piece written by none other than Jim Florio. He , one of the most unpopular former governors of the State of NJ is offering opinion of School Vouchers. You have to go some to fall into the category of most unpopular former governor of NJ, as almost all former governors tie for that title. But in the fine Jersey tradition, each governor of NJ thinks that taking his office in Trenton is a launch pad to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue only to realize somewhere about month 36 of the term that the launch pad has turned into an iceberg in the North Atlantic and the noble aim is sinking faster than the legendary ship of yore.
Reading his opinion underscores for me why he is so unpopular. For therein he is revealed to be just another politician at war with the citizenry to secure for himself and his political ilk the control they crave to further their grip on peoples lives. Similarly the immigration fiasco completely ignores the wishes of the citizens, it is as if they count for nothing. His opinion spoke of maintaining the status quo and refusing to even consider any alternative program . Simply put he said the door is closed and should never be opened.
Oh, yeah the next day , the front page of the paper contained a story about how politically connected persons milk our system to dryness.

What a great country America was before citizenship became nothing and the politicians felt that they actually had to serve the people , rather than the reverse.
