Vall de Madriu is a very beautiful valley that has been used by Andorrans for generations. Even the walking path was "paved" hundreds of years ago. The walk that we took was not very long, but the pitch and rocky path put it at the low end of difficult. Depending on the season, you will find people running up the path in training for the various mountainous races that are popular among locals. The walk is in a valley, so there is some limitation on views, but the valley itself doesn't need any help. Everything about it is pretty spectacular. If you do face towards the starting the mountain ridge that forms the French boarder is visible, as is much of Escalde Engordany. A river runs down the length of the valley. This walk is very popular for a reason. It is also accessible from Engolasters lake.

The "paved" path meanders along.
Like much of Andorra, there are plenty of dramatic peaks to see.
The first of several old houses along the trail.
Near the turn around point, the valley opens.
A collection of Summer houses. All the retaining walls were build long ago.
On the way back, the snowy mountains are pretty much the boarder with France. Escalde Engordany in the middle of the picture.
