White Dog went into the office and had a long talk with The Other White Dog. On our Friday-Is-Saturday Quinn asked to be excused from what the White Ones consider the best part of the day: the car ride and trip to the Park. WD wanted to make sure there was not a problem or an issue with one of the WDA.
She came back out a few minutes later and announced to her nervous siblings that Quinn would be more comfortable with house guarding duties and that he really preferred the idea of being at home. She lowered her voice and explained, "Since the start of the manic seizures Quinn gets easily frightened when things stray from the routine plus all of the shifting and swaying of riding in the car makes him a bit queasy. Once he gets worked up it is hard for him to calm back down. If he stays home where things are familiar and where he can just nap, then he is happier. And we all want TOWD to be happy, right?"
The WDA all woo'd in agreement but looked over their shoulders as they hopped into Pumpkin and they woofed a "back soon" as we drove down the drive.
At the Park, the "speedsters," WD, YoYoMa and Puff had an excellent workout.White Dog, off leash, was a wave of white flowing across the green field at top speed. The others strained to keep up. Then came time for the "strollers," normally Quinn and Nuka, but today just Another White Dog. She seemed a bit lost without her sniffing buddy but took advantage of her default "dad and me" time.
Apres Park ice cream was enthusiastically received only after Steve reassured the WDA that there was vanilla ice cream (Quinn's favorite) at home in the freezer and that he would get his own serving as soon as we returned.
TOWD greeted us at the door when we re-entered White Dog Ranch. He happily touched noses with his pack and proudly reported that the Ranch was safe and secure. Nuka took a special moment to let him know he had been missed.
Then the WDA turned and looked at Steve. It was time to keep a promise. Quinn followed him into the kitchen and watched Steve put a perfect scoop of white into his bowl. Not a single sibling pushed or rushed into the room; rather, they crowded the doorway and watched as Quinn bent and began licking the treat. No one stirred until he was done.
