US troops deploying to Israel?

I knew there was an anti-missile exercise going on here with the US this month, but for some reason, they're talking about deploying thousands of US troops to Israel. That makes it sound like they plan to stay a while (Hat Tip: Betty W). Calling it not just an “exercise”, but a “deployment”, the Jerusalem Post quotes US Lt.-Gen Frank Gorenc, Commander of the US Third Air Force based in Germany.
