More than stunned

I reported last week that I had not seen one of the regulars on the 6 AM dog walking circuit. The house is on the market and there are no lights on. The newspaper reported that he had been arrested. The allegation being sexual activity with a young girl. It reported his age at early 30s. It also described his job, teacher, coach at a local high school.

The details left me a little broken, for all I could think of was the young wife, with the baby scarecly 6 months old. I can't fathom why I feel so badly for her. It must be the proximity and it must be the familiarity. There is no other explanation. I find myself saying a prayer for them.

I do not give any thought to his guilt or innocence, save that I hope for the latter, but knowing that is somehow unlikely in our modern society.

Are we sexually supercharged or what. There is no shortage of abuse cases being reported, there is no shortage of child pornography cases being reported. During the height of revelation of Catholic Sex Abuse Scandal I recalled a discussion with a relative who was an educator and he predicted that post scandal, a new and more disturbing scandal would arise. He said the scandal would be in the area of public education. He is retired now, but he seemingly knew from his observations what was coming. He further stated that the scandal would not just involve predatory males and he was right on that score.

Might we do well to address sexually appropriate relationships somewhere in our sex education process, rather than the anything goes attitude that prevails now.
