White Dog seconded my after dinner suggestion that Steve run over to the gelato shoppe around the corner and bring back something tasty to celebrate a "normal" night of dinner together at a regular time and space in the evening to enjoy all being together. He returned with pistachio and lavender.
White Dog, YoYoMa and Nuka gathered around me for the pale green ice cream. Quinn pressed next to Steve for tastes of the honey sweetened flower choice. Puff, not an ice cream fan (can you imagine?), lay next to Steve.
We all shared bites from the cute little plastic spoon; each pup waiting for a turn then slurping the cool dessert down. The White Dog Army is very skilled at eating from a spoon so I was concentrating on the enjoyment of sharing when suddenly the entire spoon was yanked out of my hand as Nuka slurped her bite then clamped down on the spoon.
"Hey, give that back!" I cried and grabbed for her. She backed away and growled a possessive threat then hunkered down with her prize. Steve swooped her up and I grabbed the handle still firmly clenched in her teeth. We both heard the crunch of her biting through plastic and beginning to chew as I wrestled to open her death grip on the spoon. AWD swung her head up and rolled her lips back to nip...and in the process the handle fell out of her mouth. Most of the spoon she swallowed. (We will be watching to make sure there are no repercussions). White Dog and YoYoMa looked worried that treat time was now over...since there was no serving delivery device.
I replaced the plastic utensil with a sturdy metal one from the kitchen. The party resumed. Quinn made a point of showing that HE was a gentleman with graceful party manners...not a wild woman who wanted every single drop of the pistachio heaven, no matter what she had to digest to get it.
