Wonderful World Wednesday
White Dog said, “Two thousand four hundred is a big number isn’t it, momma?”
She was referring to the fact that this post is our 2400th. It represents more than six and half years, and about 500,000 words. It is the roadmap of a journey that hardly followed the original plan of an only pup household (White Dog) which somehow became the White Dog Army of five. It is the record of growth and maturity…not just of a precious pup into an elegant wise dog, but of a family’s evolution as well.
In the time span of 2400 posts we have watched times get tougher, yes, but we have come to appreciate that through it all, this IS a wonderful world…full of positive people and miracles and the pervasive desire to make a difference.
Our blog has always been a little side oddity. We are not in the thick of most things. It has allowed us a certain objectivity and freedom to observe our community over the course of half a million words. When White Dog and I started this blog on June 24, 2005 it was customary to not show humans in photos or to really mention them at all; in general, blogs were solely about the pup. We found it impossible to separate the story of White Dog from the context of her family and the people in her life. She and I were co-authors, equals, of the posts we made. (She still sits with me for every post we publish). Over time we noticed a shift within the Blogworld away from anonymity to embrace the fact that life…especially a fur one’s…is a tapestry filled with many characters and settings.
It is at that point, White Dog and I believe, that our Blogworld blossomed into a community, family, a group tied together by more than a love of pets and the need to write about it. We became REAL to each other and when that happened it began to matter in the most personal way when one of us was in need, or in pain. We cared and wanted to help and to share (both sadness and triumphs). It is that connection that today is our anchor in times when our faith is shaken (like by yesterday’s story of Ava) and we doubt for a moment just how wonderful the world truly is.
When we need refilling or reassurance or encouragement or just a smile we come here…home…and throw ourselves into your paws and arms. And you never fail us. How wonderful a world is that?
Thank you. Ours IS a wonderful world because of you.
