'As Benton says and this delightful book shows, Bishop was "her own best influence".'
-- Lavinia Greenlaw, Independent on Sunday
Elizabeth Bishop was one of the most popular American poets of her time and, finally, the paperback edition of Elizabeth Bishop's Exchanging Hats introduces the reader to another side of her work. Bishop was a prolific painter, and in his introduction, the curator William Benton explains the journey which led him to discover and collect the pieces which make up this beautiful book.
Soon the Guardian got wind of the new publication, and published an online gallery of her paintings on their website. You can still see it here, with the illuminating commentary on Bishop's work. And, until January 21st, the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York will be exhibiting Bishop's artwork.
Exchanging Hats by Elizabeth Bishop is available for £11.96 in the Christmas Promotion, with free UK postage and packing. Click here to find out more about the book, and start shopping.

'An entirely distinctive voice in European poetry': Raptors Wins 2011 Popescu Prize
Here's what the judges thought: 'His [Tellegen's] complex, often surreal and always highly affecting poems exhibit an understanding of the power of the story in which the dream-like psychology, the marvellously nuanced telling of a family's malaise set him apart as an entirely distinctive voice in European poetry.'
Raptors, Tellegen’s acclaimed poem sequence, depicts the dynamics of a family held hostage by the mood-swings and histrionics of a father, a figure both comic and terrifying, grotesque and pathetic.
Raptors is available for £10.36 in the Christmas Promotion, with free UK postage and packing. To find out more about this and all the other titles included in the promotion, go to the News Section on the Carcanet website. Happy shopping!
