December 22, 2011 Happy Birthday White Dog!

White Doghas grown up beneath the banner of this blog. It was started at the urging of Steve to document our new baby’s life and to give exercise to my writingskills. In the process of sharing our life with White Dog (2,366 posts today)we have become members of an incredible family in the blogger world, havestretched as individuals, and have found the courage to journey life paths thatweren’t necessarily in our original plans.

If you readthis blog for more than three days, I suspect it is quickly obvious that SikuMarie, is la Perrita Blanca de mi Corazon (the little white dog of my heart). She is my confident, my critic, my cheerleader, my challenger, and myconscience. Siku is wise and strong, compassionate and a defender of those inneed. She is the standard to which I aspire.

Raised anonly child of privilege for more than half of her life, White Dog has one byone adjusted to each special needs member we have brought into our family. Shehas set boundaries (no one else can sleep on the bed with us) but she hasembraced her responsibilities to the rest of the Army (it is she who sitsinside the dog door and barks so Quinn, who gets confused in the nighttime, canfind his way back in).
Every single day I thank the Universe for my little one for I simply cannot imagine lifewithout her. That day may come, and I have made a vow to her to be brave and tolove again, but for today that thought is banished and we celebrate life. Sikuis a joyous dance of embracing the now and being open to the wonder thatsurrounds us. She deserves positive energy and focused delight on her day.

Today TheMighty Quinn, Nuka Angel, Puff the Magical, and YoYoMa ask you to join paws andhands with us in a whirling birthday Bhangra to honor the leader of the White DogArmy…dancing, laughing, sharing, and then some CAKE! Happy Birthday, Siku Marie

Steve has put together this Smilebox as his tribute to the girl who loves to go forsunrise runs with him, shares ownership in his Zap! Electric car, and who will stayawake to watch musicals with him long after I doze off.  Siku owned a special piece of him the momenthe pulled the two-pound ball of fluff from her travel crate at the airport so long ago and she looked up at him, blinking in surprise.

Remember, at the end of this festive day (which we are going to stretch out as long as wecan), the WDA will randomly choose seven commenters who will win theopportunity to direct a special gift to the charity of their choice!
