A Parthian cairn wall and a coin and a copper artifact were discovered in Nowshahr, Mazandaran province's historical sites, Iran Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization research institute said.
The cairn wall dates back to the Parthian (Ashkani period) and the unearthed coin and copper artifact belong to the medieval Islamic civilization; the organization quoted director of archeological team, active in the region.
The ancient site named as Affelle is approximately 5 square km wide which had been used as a metal-melting shop based on the scientific findings, director of archeological team Mohammad Ghamari Fatideh added.
"The pottery and other surface evidences showed that the historical site dates back to the Parthian period," Fatideh said.
The Parthian Empire (247 BC - 224 AD) was a major Iranian political and cultural power in ancient Persia.
