US ambassador Ford is in Daraa in southern Syria to display solidarity with Syrian protesters. You might recall that after a previous visit to Hama, the Syrians ordered Ford to stay within a 25-miles radius of Damascus. Daraa is outside that radius.
Israel Radio reports that Ford is not shaking hands with or speaking to Syrian protesters out of fear for their lives.
