US Army Sergeant Kevin White, aged 22, from Westfield in Chautauqua County, New York was killed in Afghanistan on Monday 2nd May 2011 when a roadside bomb exploded near his patrol.
Sgt. White was an Army squad leader for an infantry unit stationed east of Kabul near the Pakistan border. He had only been in Afghanistan for a little more than three weeks.
Sgt. White graduated from Westfield Academy in 2006. The school superintendent says his death is being felt throughout the entire community.
"Kevin was well-liked in the community, he was very active at the First Baptist Church, in the youth group. We had students here today that know Kevin and we are all heart-broke by this tragedy," said Superintendent Mark Sissel.
