White Dog is a bit overwhelmed at the sudden changes and shifts the White Dog Army is undergoing. She is at a loss to explain changes in Puff's attitude and cannot comprehend why SAWD is being kept under lockdown. WD makes me feel as guilty as SAWD does as they both stare at me with deep, pained eyes.
Nuka paces back and forth before the segregation crate in a not so silent protest as she stares me down and chants freedom songs in her shrillest Yipe! Quinn, and even YoYoMa are on their best behavior as they, too, make a case to "Free the Littlest One!"
Puff accepts her fate with a haunted look and resignation that we have worked so hard to eliminate from her body language. SAWD asks only for an occasional potty break before sighing as she daintily steps back into her cell.
Yes, Steve and I are feeling mighty guilty. He came home during the break between day- and night-classes so that SAWD could get an actual walk for exercise and not just for necessity.
When the poor girl squirmed uncomfortably at nine tonight, we had a White Dog Army conference. This is Steve's late night and he would not be home for another two hours. White Dog looked at the assembly. "Our Sister needs a break from being locked up and we could make that happen. But we have to PROMISE to all work together." There were compassionate nods from TOWD, AWD, YAWD, and a smile of gratitude from SAWD.
YoYo agreed to be leashed and stay by my side. Quinn stayed inside and where I could see him. Nuka kept watch at the dog door ready to sound an alert if nature proved stronger than troth. Michael unlatched the big crate and swung wide the door. Puff raced to go outside.
White Dog followed at a more leisurely pace to give Puff potty privacy and both came in together. No one wanted SAWD recrated immediately so we all sat together (YAWD still on his leash at my side and Puff happily settled on the window chair) awaiting Steve's return home.
Later, Steve said that being able to be greeted by the entire WDA made his night.
