Excavation of Shiku Temple Grotto yields significant discoveries

Chinese archaeologists recently made significant discoveries in the first excavation of the Shiku Temple Grotto, including delicate frescoes, silk paintings, pottery, sculptures, and remains of books. Located in Tuyugou Valley, in Turpan Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, the grotto was first built during the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties (386–589).
