White Dog and the rest of The White Dog Army were just settling into enjoying Spring and the flowering trees and breezy mild temperatures and appearance of birdies and colorful bobbing flowers. Quinn has rediscovered his favorite lounging spots on the front porch (now that the front door can stand open all day). Nuka and Puff are learning amazing things about their relatively new home...like in Spring, the just sprouting leaves cast the perfect amount of dappled shade over the open part of the deck so that one can nap and sunbathe in just the right combination of light/shadow, warm/cool. White Dog has resumed her morning watch through the open bedroom window where she can lie with her head on the sill and watch the birdies hop and sing.
And then today...everything changed! It was suddenly Summer! Too hot to ride along in the car as errands were run. Too hot for sunbathing. Too hot to even think about hiking most of the day. And the swamp cooler isn't even hooked up...so there were no comforting cool streams of air through the house (ceiling fans made for a poor substitute). Napping was seemingly the only option on this 87 degree F day. In fact, Steve's offer to brush out excess fur was even met with some enthusiasm.
We know this is Nature's tease and that things will return to Spring in a few days, but today made us think of palettas and early morning runs at the Park and Siestas and lovely smells of things grilling...all things we look forward to...but after we have had a bit more time to enjoy this Season of Rebirth.
