U.S Army Staff Sergeant, Mark C Wells, aged 31, from San Jose, California was killed 5th March 2011 in Helmand province. He was attempting to disarm an improvised explosive device (IED) and stepped on a hidden bomb.

Staff Sgt. Wells was assigned to the 45th Sustainment Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He had been in Afghanistan since August 2010. Prior to that, he had spent 14 months in Iraq.
