White Dog sat next to me as we brushed out first Quinn and then Puff on the deck. Both are blowing coat in clumps and seem to appreciate a little assistance in removing the itchy fluff. As we got a good handful-sized furpile, White Dog and I would take the ball of hair and put it in the tree branches for the birds to use as nesting material. As the grooming went on, the trees started to look festive and the other dogs began "helping" to choose the next hanging spot. It did not take long for the Gift of the White Dogs to be discovered by our local bird friends who were soon "shopping" in the trees for needed home construction materials. WD, TOWD, AWD and SAWD sat on the deck with me silently as we witnessed the recycling for awhile and soaked in the beautiful midday. Later in the afternoon, when I thought everyone was napping, I looked out to discover Nuka and Puff lying quietly together on the deck as they intently watched the birds come and go. And when I glanced in our bedroom (which overlooks the fur trees), White Dog was stretched out so that she could rest her head on the window sill and observe the hair disappearing tuft by tuft to become soft cradles for baby birdies.
