White Dog and her siblings spent a little extra time sending Steve off to work this morning. They knew it was important for him to take more than the usual White Dog positive energy with him. Then we all sat by the phone and jumped when it rang.

It was Steve announcing that he was officially on a new path, beginning a journey that will stretch him and challenge him and reward him in ways that his (now previous) corporate job would not allow. A howl of joy went up from WD, TOWD, AWD and SAWD...I whooped along; all of us so proud of Steve's brave move at a time in life when most of our peers are gazing longingly at approaching retirement.

He has accepted a Department Chairmanship at the college where he teaches to provide a stable base. At the same time, he is partnering with a friend to open their own architectural firm. Steve has over 30 years of experience in the field, both in design and management, and we are all confident that he will do well.

When Steve came home at lunch, we were ready. Arwen's mom, of For Pet's Sake, had breathed life and powerful mojo into a fantastic good luck voodoo made just for Steve. The White Dogs gathered around and White Dog made a speech about trust and following your instincts. Quinn put his head on Steve's lap and reassured him that the entire family supported this move. Puff shyly leaned against Steve's leg as she talked about believing and not letting fear introduce doubt. Nuka reminded us all that it is only life, and that where ever Steve's decision leads, it should always include joy.
After the wisdom of The White Dog Army, there was not much left for me to say except, "We love you." and I handed him our good luck talisman. May this phase of the journey be rewarding and wonderful and filled with opportunity for a professional, a man, a hu-dad, a husband and a best friend who so deserves the blessing of the Universe.
