February 28, 2011

White Dog, The Other White Dog, Another White Dog, and Still Another White Dog bid adieu to the month of February in what they felt was an appropriate manner...napping the day away. It had been a month full of celebrations: Nuka's fashionista video production and her barkday; the addition of Dragon's new brother, Sen-ge, to our Heart Family; White Dog's Gotcha Day; and finally, Quinn's first Gotcha Day.

It has also been a month of weird weather, more suitable, at times for Remington's Minnesota neck of the woods, than for our sunny Land of Enchantment. We experienced severe cold that shut Michael's school down for nearly a week and left the workers at the shelter where he volunteers scrambling to keep water from freezing in the bowls of the pups and kitties waiting for forever homes. And last weekend it was 70 degrees F. Poor Nuka is not sure from day-to-day which wardrobe to choose. Last night we had howling canyon winds that made the trees creak and scratch their tips along the side of the house; this sent all of the White Dogs to sleep positions as close to our bed as White Dog would allow.

In February, we explored all kinds of new Parks as we sought the perfect location for this summer's 2MillionDog Walk for Canine Cancer research. The White Dog Army and the humans reached a consensus that we all liked the old timey Rotary Park in Bernalillo best. It isn't the prettiest but it has a true sense of community about it. We are now working to make that place and date official.

We weathered Puff's newest bout of congestion...and her making herself sick by eating stuffies. AWD patiently endured bath day last Sunday and actually seemed to enjoy an event we were warned that we best not attempt without sedation. SAWD also received an at-home beauty treatment and came out of Chez Stephen as brightly white and soft as White Dog (but NOT as patient, by ANY means about being brushed)!

It has been a busy 28 days as we look back and no longer wonder where the month went. The White Dog Army has heard that March comes in like a lion...and they are ready...but first a little left over Gotcha Day banana cake and strawberry ice cream...and maybe a long nap!

P.S. Quinn asked if White Dog would let him show off his new custom made raised meal tray, which he received for his Gotcha Day. He loves it (as do AWD and SAWD who always check out his bowl after meals just in case he missed something).
