White Dog was left in charge as we gathered up Puff, SAWD, and headed to the Vet for her followup bronchitis checkup. Since SAWD is still recovering from heartworms, her pulmonary system is compromised and Dr. Julia is keeping very close watch on the bronchitis. Our little one has been to the vet so often since she joined us that she, like White Dog, is developing a dislike for the place. But when she dug in her feet and refused to enter the building, Steve simply lifted her up and carried her in.
Her lungs sounded clearer but we are keeping her on both the antibiotic and the steroid until next week, when we will go back for yet another followup. The concern is that the congestion clear completely and not become pneumonia.
Back in the car, sitting in White Dog's console "throne" between Steve and I, our little miss seemed to enjoy the privilege of being our sole passenger. SAWD almost looked defiant when I mentioned that she should NOT tell White Dog that she had ridden in the choice spot.
Since Steve was using his lunch hour for the vet visit, we pulled into Sonic for a quick bite. This was SAWD's introduction to the car picnic ritual and she watched with great interest as Steve ordered chicken sandwiches and tater tots. The servers on roller skates earned a bark and when they came to our window, Puff was wagging and ready. "Please don't tell the others about this special treat," Steve begged as he handed her bits of grilled chicken and tots. "They will be very upset." She grunted through a mouthful of chicken bliss.
We were barely in the door before being swarmed by White Dog, Quinn, and Nuka who wanted to check out their sister. And she didn't even have her harness off before yipping out, "I am SO fine, I got to sit in the throne AND we had a picnic!" Three white fluffy heads turned in unison to stare at me in disbelief...and I reached for the uber bribery bag, the chicken jerky!
