White Dog and Quinn sat on either side of me and the "girls" rested behind us in their beds as we visited our blog friends this afternoon. This has become somewhat of a daily routine and we all enjoy the opportunity to hear comments and share the adventures of those in our community.

Today is Martin Luther King Day and Asta's blog was inspirational and informative. Puff and Nuka crept closer as I read Asta's post out loud to them, adding explanation along the way. White Dog, my often cynic, said, "He didn't change things very much did he? Humans are still as violent and as mean as ever." "It sometimes does seem like we just keep repeating the same mistakes over and over, but steps have been made and the world is very different than it was in 1968," I defended.

"Every time anyone makes a choice for acceptance and non-violence, the planet shifts slightly toward the vision that Dr. King had of all people (and I add furpeople, too) living cooperatively and peacefully." "But being nice to just one pup or person does not amount to anything!" Puff timidly sighed. "But it is like a ripple on a pond," Quinn replied nuzzling his sister, "if you are kind to one person who is then kind to someone else and that person is kind and on and on, pretty soon it does make a difference!"

"Violence only makes people--and animals--mean and hateful," Nuka signed. "So, if we learn to work together to solve problems and accept that diversity makes us stronger, then humans can leave behind the idea that the biggest bully, the largest gun, the most money wins?" White Dog pressed. "That is the legacy of Dr. King," I smiled, petting my White Ones, "..and in that we all win!"

"Well, let's get the word out and maybe everyone can take one grassroots step, in their home, in their neighborhood, to spread Peace today!" Quinn said as he pushed a chewie over to share with Nuka.

Thanks Asta, for lighting a flame of awareness here at the White Dog Ranch.
