The excavation works at Jabal al-Sin site on the left bank of the Euphrates uncovered a number of cemeteries and archaeological findings dating back to the Byzantine period.
Mohammd Sarhan al-Ahmad, Director of Raqqa Antiquities Department, said the cemeteries discovered by the national archaeological mission working in the province were found to contain skeletons, a variety of different sized, shaped and colored beads and pottery lanterns.
Rusty metal pieces including an earring, a ring and bracelets, as well as pottery pieces were also unearthed in the cemeteries.
Al-Ahmad added that the mission also discovered in the site water storages and scores of cemeteries from the Byzantine era, in addition to a number of caverns which were used as collective cemeteries not yet opened.
