Director of the General Corporation for Museums and Archaeology, Dr. Salah Eddin Mohamed Ahmed said the corporation has made a plan for the survey and saving of the archaeological sites in upper Nahr Atbara and Sitait, regarding it as the area which will be affected by Atbara and Sitai dam construction to be established within this year 2011.
He explained to Suna that the surveying and saving work will be implemented in cooperation with the dams implementation unit which will finance the project.
He added that the surveying work will include areas with archaeological sites in the affected places by the dam construction, pointing that the saving works will include listing the sites and saving them, besides their classification and maintenance.
He added that the surveying operations will include Mugrat Island and Abu Hamad in Nahr an Nil state pointing that these activities will commence in the summer of 2011 with the provision of the qualified cadres in the archaeology and maintenance sphere.
