White Dog just looks at the humans in this house and shakes her head. She doesn't understand why every one of us talks to Nuka as if she were able to hear. We have no answer but admit we all do regularly find ourselves talking to her with voice as well as with hand signals...and often it is just a verbal communication. I said to AWD just moments ago, "Don't go over and wake your brother, Quinn is sleeping." She walked right past me and nosed him...I caught myself and finished, "but of course, I am saying this with my back turned and you have no idea that I even want you to stop." Still I felt like I had been caught being silly.
TOWD sleeps in the closet in the office. It has been his preferred spot since he arrived nearly nine months ago. He has decorated the floor with a couple of thick, comfortable Indian design rugs which he arranges and pushes around to suit his whim.
Nuka and Quinn have developed a rather special nighttime ritual. The past few nights, after TOWD returns from his pre-bed walk with WD and he heads for his "cave" Nuka joins him and curls up in the closet doorway on the edge of blanket, close to but not quite touching him. They rest together for some time and then AWD comes to her own bed. It is almost as if she is tucking in her brother and staying with him until he falls asleep.
Unfortunately, Quinn is so easily upset by the camera pointing at him, its sounds and flash, that we cannot document this precious sharing moment without possibly distressing him...but Puff is a silent witness as she rests in her crate across from them both. SAWD hopefully senses the family bond that is developing and will some day soon want to be a part of it in her own unique way.
