White Dog and Quinn ceremoniously came and addressed Steve and I as we prepared to eat lunch several weeks ago. This was shortly after our didn’t happen adoption of Snowball, the senior Eskie in urgent need of home. They were very serious. We stopped and waited to hear what they had to say.
“Moma…Dad,” White Dog began. “Quinn and I have been discussing everyone’s sadness that Snowball didn’t come to live with us. And we think you are missing the point that things happen for a reason.” Really? My raised eyebrows asked. The Other White Dog continued, “You know how you just knew that I was meant to be here and despite all kinds of hurdles and distance, it happened? Well you and dad are not looking right under your own noses!”
Steve’s confused look prompted WD to sigh and explain more simply. “Remember, we wrote that blog about senior and disabled pups being hardest to find homes? Remember, the example you used of that senior Eskie girl in Florida who is deaf and has been adopted and returned because her disability is too hard for some humans to deal with? Remember, your Sheena was deaf in the last years of her life?” The White Ones could see us putting the pieces together slowly but TOWD was taking no chances that we would miss the point.
“Let’s adopt her! Together we can all help her adapt and you already know about deafness and she deserves a chance at a forever home. And she NEEDS us…just like I did!” “Well you know,” Steve began, “we weren’t exactly looking to add another member to our family…” “OMD, you aren’t getting it!” White Dog snapped in frustration. “Things happen for a reason! You were ready to take in Snowball because she needed us…this is no different…listen to your heart!”
We long ago learned not to argue with one stubborn Eskie, and now faced with two determined white faces and their irrefutable arguments; we had to agree that it was the right thing to do. We did some research, filled out adoption papers, passed the home inspection, and waited while the incredible transport volunteers strung together a path. We are nervous but confident that this little girl will come to find safety and security and love with us. One thing is certain, she will never be returned for any reason; our commitment is for rest of her days.
Tomorrow we go to Dallas to bring Nuka home with us. Formally “Angel” White Dog and The Other White Dog chose an Eskimo name meaning “Little Sister.” The OP Pack already provided a blogging moniker of “Another White Dog…AWD.” All that is missing now is our new baby. This is her PetFinder photo.
