Baofeng County, which was prosperous due to its rich mineral resources in ancient times, is a peaceful and quiet small city with long history. However, a 22.22-kilometer project of South-to-North Water Diversion has brought this sleepy town to life.
Starting in 2007, in order to make way for the South-to-North Water Diversion national project, Henan provincial archeology departments began protective excavation works in the construction areas in Baofeng County.

Up to now, more than 90 ancient tombs, which mainly date back to the Han and Tang dynasties, have been excavated there. A large number of pottery jars, vases, bowls and iron knives were excavated as well.
Judging from the various types of pottery, archaeologists concluded that the history of local residents could go back to the period of Warring States.
