White Dog and Quinn could not believe how incredibly blue the sky was and how absolutely perfect the weather! We needed to get out and go bike riding and flush rabbits at the nature center! We dropped Michael off at the Shelter for his volunteer job and headed over to pick up Gregg, Candace and Dragon. Once at the trail head, Dragon wiggled and squirmed like the over-excitable pup he is at the prospect of "going along" on the ride. He and his parents were such fun to watch as they fastened on his basket, put on his life vest harness, and clipped him safely inside the carrier. All he needed was a teeny tiny helmet and doggles and he would have looked like a pro! As it was, we all laughed till we cried when Gregg pointed out that Candace on the bike with Dragon in the basket looked like the famous "flying" scene of ET!
White Dog, Quinn and I stretched out under the thinning shade of the cottonwoods and watched leaves drift lazily to the ground. The White Dogs wandered over to the pond to check out the migratory visitors and then came back to nap while I read. Later, the three of us discussed the disappointment from our foiled adoption. Quinn has a theory that Snowball found another home because we have already been marked to become someone else's new family. "I knew you were coming to get me, " he said, "I just had to wait until you got there to rescue me." "I think we cut it pretty close, bro'" White Dog said. "I wasn't worried, I knew you'd save me," the Mighty One answered. "Just like that pup who is out there now knows and is waiting. Trust me on this!"
"All right, let's not get mushy. Here come the others. Let's go eat!" demanded White Dog. "I feel the need for the Route 66 Malt Shop, and milkshakes!"
