AN archaeological dig in Bredenbury unearthed some tantalising clues to the area’s medieval past when it finished this week.
Bromyard and District Local History Society and Herefordshire Archaeology embarked on the two-week dig at Manor Farm to confirm suspicions that the site may have housed a medieval settlement.
Project leader Steve Palmer said his team, and numerous volunteers who dropped by, had found “high-status” pottery as well as proof of a stone wall.
“We know there were post-medieval buildings on the site which were taken down in the 1760s so we were looking into those,” he explained. “But we were also trying to go through whether there was a medieval settlement underlying it.”
The pottery will now be assessed by an expert and it is hoped it will form the basis of a display at the group’s Local History Centre, in Sherford Street, Bromyard.
