While digging in his garden, a farmer in Ha Tinh province discovered two stone bars in strange shapes, identified by archaeologists as stone pestles that date back 3,500 to 5,000 years ago.
The farmer’s son played with these pestles and lost one of them.
According to Ho Bach Khoa, a senior official from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh province, the two pestles were buried in the depth of 30cm. The remaining pestle is 38cm long, with a round and a pointed head.
This is the first stone-made tool discovered in Ha Tinh so far.
Ha Tinh’s cultural researchers said that these pestles were made in the Neolithic era. They were used to grind food or make holes to sow seeds.
Archaeologists are conducting research of these items.
