White Dog and Quinn were a little disappointed that our late night Friday and their time change meant that visiting Howard and Jim did not want to go to the Farmer's Market at 7:30am...BUT Steve's "consolation prize" of taking them both to the Park seemed to ease their pain. White Dog ran and ran as if she were a puppy and Quinn continued to prove himself trustworthy off-leash as he dutifully trotted beside Steve. Both were more than ready for breakfast when they returned home...Quinn, more so than his sister, it seemed.
When Steve opened the car door so the White Dogs could hop out, White Dog pranced up the stairs and waited to come inside. The OTHER White Dog jumped down, noticed the next door neighbor's front door was open (where Cauliflower the C-A-T lives) and smelled their breakfast cooking. So HE went over, walked into their house, and sat waiting at their table. Steve had to go and bring our boy home, where White Dog let him know what a boorish ill mannered act it is to invite yourself into another's home for a meal. She is amazed sometimes at his lack of party manners.
Howard and Jim came over late in the morning so Howard could make apricot pine nut cookies for the evening's "Welcome" dinner and both White Dogs watched and supervised and taste tested. When it came time to bake the goodies, we discovered that sometime since it's last use, our oven had crossed the Appliance Bridge and was no longer among the functioning. So next week we will be adding a new appliance to our family (keep paws and fingers crossed for a good sale!)
White Dog made a quick call to Dragon to see if we could bring the cookie sheets over to their house for finishing...and since he, too, had a vested interest in the upcoming dinner, he graciously gave permission.
Once back home, the group gathered and chopped and sliced and sauteed and bbq'd until the entire neighborhood was drooling over our meal. Richard and Steve made whole red snapper stuffed with wonderful veggies fresh that morning from the farmer's market...WD, TOWD and The Honorary White Dog supervised the grilling until things were just right. There was beet and goat cheese salad, and a tossed salad made from greens from Gregg's greenhouse, and a fresh baked loaf of bread (from the farmer's market), homemade wasabi potato salad, grilled eggplant and squash mixed with newly roasted chilies, the fish and of course, Howard's cookies with fruit.
After finishing "their" snapper, the pups stretched out for a post meal snooze while conversation and laughter ebbed and flowed. It was a wonderful evening of catching up and sharing.
P.S. White Dog has inspired Michael to take up blogging! She promised to share his address, even though it is not a dog centric blog because she knows that if he is writing about his life there will surely be stories that involve a certain pair of fluffy White Dogs. Visit him at http://www.mainstreamconnection.blogspot.com/ and welcome him to the blogging world. Thanks
