White Dog leaped across the room, over my horizontal form, and landed on the bed. "Guess where we went on this beautiful first day of Autumn," she challenged as she pushed her cold nose into the nape of my neck.

"Huh, what, I don't know, from the feel of your nose, the Arctic." I mumbled and squooshed deeper into the blankets. She started digging them back, exposing my back then plopped down against it. "You know I'm getting kind of chilled like this," I said trying to pull the comforter out from under her.

"That is what is so great about AUTUMN," she woofed, "It's cool really early and you go to the PARK and you can really run along time without getting overheated and there are leaves to crunch in...well, not yet...but then you come home and get all warm comfy in the blankets again and take a pre-breakfast nap. Then you wake up and eat and it is warm and sunny!" "Ummm, you and dad didn't happen to stop at Starbucks after the Park, did you...you seem a little hyper." "No, but that reminds me, wait a minute..."

White Dog hopped off the bed and was gone long enough for me to dogproof the covers by tucking them firmly around me. When she returned she had Quinn and Steve with her. "We brought you something," WD said, "guess what?" "And it is NOT warm almond croissants...hey, dad, why didn't we get THOSE?" The Other White Dog said.

Steve said nothing but held out a bouquet of fresh Autumn flowers. "Happy First Day of Autumn," they all shouted and piled on top of me!
