White Dog and Quinn did not enjoy the day being set aside for housekeeping one bit. It gave them no sense of accomplishment to see papers finally filed in the office, or the cookbooks put up on a new shelf in the kitchen or mending projects completed. The impending arrival of out-of-town visitors from the far reaches of the land in just a little over a week did not send them into a cleaning swoon. In fact, they were bored to napping! So when Michael came home from volunteering at the Rescue and was all excited, they gathered around him, tails wagging, hungry for something more lively than dust bunny removal from behind the toy box.

It seems that the young woman usually in charge of the cat adoption area was not there. The woman in charge, the one who initially had such difficulty with Michael's abilities, asked him to "be in charge" of the cat area today. To paraphrase Michael's telling: "she gave me keys and I got to sit at the desk with the phone, and I could take out and show the kittens, and no one even checked on me. And I replaced the missing litter boxes by using some from empty cages. Best of all...guess what? A cat got adopted on my watch...a little orange boy cat!"

White Dog and The Other White Dog high pawed Michael and called for a round of treats to celebrate...there was some debate as to whether the festive nosh would be dog turkey jerky or Michael's favorite apricot butter cookies. In the spirit of joyfulness, we threw choice to the winds and had both (although for some strange reason, Michael passed on the jerky)!
