That's right, folks. We are potty training twins over here at the Cunningham Ranch. And I will tell you that it has not been as painful as I thought it would be. Actually, it's going quite swimmingly.
It all started last Wednesday. I had talked to my mom about potty training and the fact that it was going to have to wait for a while since I will be heading back to work and not staying home. She said I could potty train over Thanksgiving or Christmas break, no problem. Then I thought, "Well, the weather is supposed to be crummy for the next few days... And I know I won't want to do it over my future vacation/family holiday times, so why not just go for it?"
As soon as the boys woke up we headed to Babies R Us where we got Woody & Buzz underwear, as well as Thomas the Train underwear. We picked up two potty chairs for $13.99 each, and a bag of m&m's for their reward. (I have to mention that our potty chairs do not light up or play music as the boys urinate, although, if you prefer that option, I will tell you that Target has an absolute plethora of musical johns.)
We spent Wednesday & Thursday inside the house, in the living room, naked from the waist down. I wanted the boys to have a chance to get to know the feeling of peeing, and I have heard that naked is a good way to go. They both successfully peed on the toilet Wednesday. Jack even pooped on the toilet. And when he told Josh about it, he said, "Daddy, I dump dirt!" Ha!
By Friday they were wearing underwear during all awake times (putting on diapers at nap & bed times) and only had accidents if I was in the bathroom with the other one.
Friday afternoon we ventured outside, and Logan brought both potties out with us. Just in case.
After Logan is done using the toilet, he jumps up and exclaims, "I did it, Mommy! I peed in da toilet! I get candy?!?" It is so adorable!
Saturday we spent at the beach, visiting my grandparents, so we wore diapers and let potty training take a day off. But today we were back at it again. Today was the first time we have left the house since we started training, and I was nervous. We paid rent, went grocery shopping and to the park. We brought a potty chair, just in case, but only had to use it at the park for Jack. Logan even went to the bathroom at Winco, which was an awesome step for him. Despite our outings, we HAD NO ACCIDENTS today!!! Not even one! I am so pumped! The boys are really good about going potty in their seats and about telling me if they need to go. Although, most of the time I just say, "Okay, time to go potty!' about every half hour or so.

I had read in Parents magazine that there is this magical potty training window, between the ages of 27 and 32 months, and that kids trained during this time train faster and are less stubborn, and so far with the boys, it seems to be true. (They will be 27 months tomorrow.)
Here's hoping it continues to go this well!
