The on-site implementation of the €1.97 million conservation project for the Tarxien Temples will be embarked upon by Heritage Malta next month.
The agency said in a statement this was part of the €9.2 million Archaeological Heritage Conservation Project, partly financed by the European Regional Development Fund for 2007-2013.
The first phase will include the removal of the existing walkway so that a complete 3D survey of the megalithic temples could be carried out. The walkway will be removed next month and the 3D survey will take place in October.
For this reason parts of the temple may be temporarily closed to visitors during September.
Heritage Malta said it was committed to keep disruptions to visitor access to the minimum necessary to guarantee visitor safety.
The admission fee to the temples during such instances will be at a reduced price.
