Digging the fourth bore of the Caldecott Tunnel is turning up a prehistoric snapshot of the Bay Area, complete with fossils that could be millions of years old.
Among the hard hat brigade at the construction site are paleontologists. The fossil scientists say the project has uncovered a variety of interesting finds.
"So far we found a large camel. A camel of this period which is about eleven million-years-old, about the size of Giraffes," said Josh Wyatt, a paleontologist at PaleoResource.
They have also found teeth from ancient camels and horses, rodent teeth and a human leg bone.
"So far we have found over five hundred samples," said Wyatt.
In his video report. Don Ford gets a closer look at what the dig has turned up.
