White Dog pulled a fast one on her brother this morning. After the Sunday morning Bosque hike this hot and humid a.m. Candace, Dragon, Steve, the White Dogs, and I went home to pick up Michael so that he could go to his volunteer "job" at the rescue. The plan was after dropping him off that we would meet up with Richard and head to Sophia's for brunch. During the drive back home (with the dogs all panting from their exercise) Steve and I decided that the White Ones would be happier at home where it was cooler and that we would bring them back something yummy. This was all discussed in front of White Dog, which was our first mistake.

After pulling in the driveway Steve got out and called White Dog to follow as he went around the car to get TOWD out of the back seat. Candace, Dragon, and I waited in the car. WD assessed the situation and circled the car, hopping back in the open driver's door. Quinn tried to also reenter (he has learned to trust his sister's lead in matters of this sort), but Steve insisted and used his leash to steer The Other White Dog into the house.

Steve stood at the entry and whistled for White Dog and then commanded her to "COME!" She was struck with temporary deafness and melted into the seat passively resisting ala Gandhi. Michael had joined us and was fidgeting to go so he would not be "late," Steve was getting no response to his pleas for White Dog to exit the car, Dragon was barking at Cauliflower the cat. It was hot. It was major sensory overload.

"Fine!" I said in my momma tone. "Everyone in the car. White Dog can go with to Sophia's." Michael argued that it wasn't fair to Quinn (and it wasn't) but he was happily inside the house already curled on the tile napping. So we promised him rewards to come and finally got on the road.

White Dog, looking pretty smug, took up her position on the console and snuggled against me. "I do not want to hear a single peep from you about how hot it is sitting out on the patio," I whispered. "Bacon!" was her reply.

P.S. This is the newly painted ceiling and light fixture in the kitchen. White Dog and Quinn and Steve are one heck of a team!
