Some officials of Lai Chau’s Muong Te district went to examine 18 stone-made tools at the home of a man name Quyn in Nam Hang commune in early June.
Archeologists speculate that these are tools of Neolithic Era – Bronze Age people. The set included several types of axes, hoes, spades and arrows.
Quyn, the owner of these tools, discovered them while sifting for gold along the banks of the Da River in 2006. With his guidance, Lai Chau Museum’s experts found more antiques in the same spot, including stone and terra-cotta artifacts.
In May 2010, this museum also unearthed more than 16,500 items at 11 archaeological sites along the Da River, in Sin Ho district, Lai Chau province.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved a project to protect archaeological sites exposed at the construction site of the ongoing Son La hydropower project in Lai Chau province.
