White Dog watched the impending battle of wills with great interest. Quinn has seemingly forgotten that he must sit in order to get treats; he wants them but refuses to sit as he repeatedly noses your hand. Michael understands that if he gives in and hands The Other White Dog yummies just because Quinn demands them that he will never listen to the command. "Because he knows if he just waits until I am tired of saying 'sit' that he wins," Michael summarized. White Dog nodded her agreement and Michael continued to hold the treat out while repeating, "Quinn, sit!" Stubborn Quinn bumped Michael's arm but wouldn't sit...Michael held firm...TOWD backed up as though he was going to sit but at the last minute walked off; only to return seconds later...Michael stayed calm and repeated his request. White Dog hopped down from the sofa and demonstrated the proper manners...and Michael rewarded her while suggesting to Quinn that he follow White Dog's lead. For nearly 15 minutes neither refused to give up their stance. Finally, Quinn sank to his haunches. Michael immediately gave him the treat and lavished him with "Good Boy!" Michael gave the stay signal as he reached for another treat. This time Quinn complied and was rewarded..."I sure hope he remembers this," Michael said, "I hate to think that it will take this long every time we give him a treat!" "Amen, brother," said White Dog!
