Ancient Egypt And Her Neighbours at Birkbeck, University of London

In this, the third annual Birkbeck summer school, we will be addressing the topic of Egypt and its neighbours, which is to say, Egypt’s interactions with other nations of the Ancient Near East and Africa.

Tomb of Seti I at Thebes from Niccolo Rosellini's Monuments of Egypt and Nubia (Pisa, Italy, 1832–44) The exchange of ideas, technology and religion as well as more violent exchanges will be discussed. Similarities and differences between Egypt’s culture and religion and that of her neighbours will be looked at. Relations, diplomatic and not so diplomatic, between Egypt and Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia and Africa, in both war and peacetime, will be examined in detail.
