The department of archaeology and museums on Friday received a treasure trove comprising 20 silver coins of the Mughal era from Garla mandal in Khammam district.
The department acquired the antique silver coins from a farmer under the Indian Treasure Trove Act, 1878.
According to Professor P. Chenna Reddy, director of archaeology and museums, the coins were found when a farmer, Mr Mokalla Latchaiah, was levelling his farmland.
The coins weigh 230 grams in all. A preliminary study of the coins reveals that 19 of the coins belong to the Delhi Sultans (13th to 15th century) and one coin belongs to Mughal emperor Aurangazeb (16th to 17th century).
Dr J. Geeta Reddy, minister for tourism, culture, archaeology and museums, was happy on receiving the treasure trove. She instructed officials to display it at the Dr YSR Andhra Pradesh State Museum.
