White Dog was told by Jesse, her trainer, that dogs do not sort through food, that when presented with a meal will simply eat it all. Like so many "facts" she learned as a pup, White Dog has systematically spent her life disproving that adage. She can take a casserole...or tonight's lamb stew...and selectively eat only the lamb (which we have shredded into small bites) leaving behind the potatoes, the zucchini and the eggplant. Lamb pieces that have a bit of spinach clinging to them are pushed around until the offending greenery is removed, then are savored. Dog kibble, mixed into the gravy to provide a little crunch, is nosed entirely off of her plate. On spaghetti night, White Dog is the master at somehow only choosing the ground turkey mixed in the marinara and the grated Parmesan on top...noodles and sauce are ignored...but she does enjoy a bite or two of garlic bread (or better yet, garlic cheese bread) with the "pasta." Our food Diva carefully licks the bleu cheese dressing from salad components she is offered and then leaves the vegetables on a neat pile on the carpet. Quinn loves to follow along behind his sister polishing off her "left behinds" and cleaning up the area around her plate.
