White Dog and The Other White Dog spent the day negotiating choices for the upcoming hot weather napping season. Our summers get very warm in Albuquerque and already the temperatures have teased us with some "siesta afternoons." Granted, once the swamp cooler is readied for the season the prime snoozing locations involve the downdrafts under the cooler vents. But we try to delay that energy expense as far into the summer as we can; consequently it is the natural chilly places that were being claimed.
White Dog has always been fond of sleeping on the slate tiles of the fireplace hearth (she has a "fur" rug on one side for when she seeks warmth so the spot is a year-round favorite). Quinn has discovered the concrete floor of the sunporch is remarkably pleasant both for its stone coolness as well as for the wafting breezes coming through the windows. He has also laid claim to the bathroom floor, and must be begged to disturb himself from rest so that the facilities can be utilized by humans in need. White Dog, of course, would hear no argument for even sharing space on the bed, where, head on pillows, you can enjoy the breeze from the window as well as from the patio door (plus you have a marvelous view of the yard)! White Dog still has her spot under her big tree, which has been spared removal at least for now. TOWD prefers being under the deck or on the covered structure curled under one of the built-in benches.
The two worked out the details and came to agreement so there will be no ugly scenes when things get hot. That done, White Dog and Other White Dog each adjourned to a cool, comfy spot and settled in for a late afternoon snoozefest.
