An Figurative Arts Exhibition on the theme “The ancient olive grove of Crete in the depth of time” is being organised by the Cultural Associations Network of Crete and the Technological Educational Institute Crete, with the co-operation of the four Prefectoral Administration Authorities of the island. The Exhibition is supported by the World Council of Cretans and the Chamber of Figurative Arts Greece. Everyone can take part.
Theme of the Exhibition. “The ancient olive grove of Crete, in the depth of time” (meaning the past and future time).
Organizers. The Cultural Associations Network of Crete and the Technological Educational Institute Crete. Co-organizers are the four Prefectoral Administration Authorities of Crete: Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno and Lassithi. The exhibition is supported by the World Council Crete and the Chamber of Figurative Arts Greece.
Type of the Exhibition. International. Artists from Greece and from all over the world can participate. It will include works of painting, engraving, mosaic, sculpture, art photography and video art.
Venue of the Exhibition. Commencing in June in a room especially re-arranged for this purpose at the Technological Educational Institute Crete, in Estavromenos, a suburb of the city Heraklion. In July the Exhibition will be moved to an appropriate exhibition room in the International Exhibition Centre Crete at Gournes, near the city ofHeraklion. The exhibition is intended to travel later to Athens and to Brussels or Strasbourg.
Deadline for the submission of art works. All items of art work and accompanying documentation must received by the Technological Educational Institute Crete in the Heraklion campus from the 1st till the 15th of June 2010. Artists can take part only as individuals. Participation from legal entities, for example galleries, associations and faculties of figurative arts, will not be accepted.
Documentation. The works of art should be accompanied by digital files (in a CD) including a photograph of work with a volume of 1 to 3 Mb (taken with the responsibility of the artist), the title of the item, its dimensions, the materials used and details of communication with the artist (including telephone number, e-mail address and postal address). Also included, in a printed and in electronic form, should be an artist’s estimate for the value of each item. Each artist can take part with only one item.
Dimensions of the work. The maximum dimensions of each item can be only1x1 metre. They will be acceptable in tenter or framed artworks. For the sculptures the maximum volume can be 0,50 cubic metres and the maximum height 1,80 metres including the base.
Safety of the art work: The safety of the works after their receipt by the Technological Educational Institute Crete at the Heraklion campus and the Chamber of Figurative Arts, up to the completion of exhibition at the International Exhibition Centre Crete in Gouves, will be the responsibility of organizers. If another town hosts the exhibition, the safety of the works (in transport and at the exhibition room) will be the responsibility of the organizers of that Prefectoral Administration Authority. The safety of the works for the return of these to the artists will be the responsibility of the final organizers.
Transport of artworks
1. The artists that live and work in Crete must personally deliver their work to the central campus of the Technological Educational Institute Crete in Estavromenos, Heraklion up to 15 June 2010.
2. Artists outside of Crete but inside Greece must dispatch their work in the offices of the Chamber of Figurative Arts (14 Koletti str., Athens 10681) up to 14 June 2010. The transport and safety of work on the way to the offices of the Chamber of Figurative Artswill be the responsibility of the artists themselves.
The cost of transport and the safety of the works from the offices of the Chamber of Figurative Arts to the central campus of the Technological Educational Institute Crete in Estavromenos, Heraklion will be covered by the organizers of the exhibition.
3. Artists that live and work outside of Greece can dispatch their work to the central central campus of the Technological Educational Institute Crete in Estavromenos, Heraklion (see full address below). The safety of the works up to the central campus of the Technological Educational Institute Crete in Estavromenos, Heraklion must be the responsibility of the artists themselves. The cost of transport of the work from abroad to the Technological Educational Institute Crete will be covered by the organizers.
Sales of the works. Any sales of art works will be the responsibility of the artists and interested parties only. ‘Advance selling’ of work will be possible during the exhibition. However, the transport of works from the exhibition site to buyers will be the responsibility of the artist and the buyer. Art works can leave the exhibition and be shipped to buyers only after the full completion of ‘travel’ of the exhibition through all interested cities.
Promotion of Exhibition. The broadest possible promotion will be sought after by means of mass briefing and communication (daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, the internet etc.). Posters and booklets will be printed and broadly distributed and posted. Exhibition catalogues will be published in an electronic and a printed form.
