Tunisia continues to give a special interest to its many archaeological sites.
“Utique” (Utica) located some 30 km north of Tunis in the governorate of Bizerta, is witnessing anew excavations campaign.
This program is part of agreements on scientific cooperation signed between the National Heritage Institute (INP), and the Universities of Oxford, the Sorbonne and the Institute of Phoenician studies in Madrid, Spain.
The campaign coincides with a joint project initiated between the INP and the Agency for development and promotion of cultural heritage, to preserve Utica’s archaeological site.
After the completion of the technical studies, a new museum will be built expanding over 390 square meters.
The new museum will allow visitors to discover the different components of the site of Utica as well as retrieving precious information on the life of the early Phoenicians.
