This is White Dog and Quinn's Audition photo for Mack's Orchestra. White Dog is a lovely singer; Quinn is an accomplished musician.
White Dog and Quinn spent the day recovering from the rigors of entertaining and feasting yesterday. As they relaxed at my feet and on my shoulder, we discussed how proud I was of both them. White Dog has turned out to be an excellent trainer; Quinn looks to her for direction on "proper" behavior and then copies her actions. White Dog reminds him, when necessary, with a vocal cue...or on the growing rarer occasions, a nip.
Through White Dog's coaching, Quinn now routinely "Waits" at treat time for White Dog to receive her reward first, and most times, he will even sit attentively as he waits. This is big but the major progress has come in the form of Quinn's evolving party manners. He has learned this concept entirely from the White Mistress of Etiquette and his progress is remarkable.
Yesterday we had food arrayed on the coffee table and the group was busily using every horizontal surface in the kitchen. White Dog was, as usual, exquisite in her manners, but we kept a nervous eye on the new boy...unnecessarily as it turned out. Quinn was curious and stood at the edge of the platters and smells on the table. but a simple reminder, "Party Manners, Please!" was enough to freeze him from further investigation. He simply stood and stared or turned and walked away. Several times he seemed in doubt and looked at White Dog who somehow conveyed to him just the right thing to do...it was amazing to watch. White Dog beamed at him and we all praised student and teacher both with words and treats.
