April 25, 2010
White Dog and Quinn wandered out into the front yard in wonder. At some point during the night, or early this morning, we were "flocked!" Covering our property was an army of pink flamingos standing on the ground, hiding in the bushes, posing on landscape rocks, and sitting on the bench...there were nearly 30 of the plastic birds along with a huge sign announcing that friends had paid to have us flocked as part of a fund raiser for a local youth band collecting money to travel to competitions across the country. Quinn jumped back when the pink spindly legged guy lurched toward him as he sniffed. White Dog challenged the entire flock by barking and grabbing a legless bird by the neck. The flock stayed with us all day (White Dog reminded them of their trespass every time she looked out of the window). Gregg and Candace were pleased to see their sponsored "mischief" when they came by and Dragon showed who was boss by lifting his leg on one of them near his car. Richard was mightily amused by our "new decorating scheme!" Magically, at some point between everyone's arrival in the late afternoon and the middle of the evening when they left, the flock migrated to a new home. We were all surprised that they had disappeared from right under our noses but White Dog reminded us that she had barked a alert earlier which escaped our attention..."No one ever pays attention to the dog!" she lamented.
