White Dog and I spent the day being tortured by the mischievous imps of fate nipping at our toes. We are frustrated over a hundred and fifty little things that went wrong and ate into the serenity of our "normal" world.
First, it was snowing big wet glopping flakes all morning! It is the end of March, for dog's sake; time for tulips and blue skies and 60 degree temps! The grey dampness was just irritating to White Dog who really wanted to sunbathe on the deck. And then it was indecisive enough to warm up enough this afternoon to melt all the snow leaving just grey wetness.
Then, the newly installed washing machine started leaving puddles because the drain line had a clog. The first repairman didn't even return our calls. White Dog has no patience for poor customer service! The second choice came out this afternoon and $150 later the line is "about 50% open" but still has an issue with water standing in the pipe which for 50 years has had an upward bend. White Dog vented her frustration loudly to the repairman, who really wasn't at fault.
My favorite paintbrush handle snapped midstroke causing me to teach White Dog a new word that I hope she doesn't repeat. In pulling open the heat sealed end of the chips at lunch the entire bag tore explosively and threw all the pretty multicolored veggie chips everywhere in the kitchen. White Dog and Quinn (who are normally a wonderful clean up crew) just sniffed and walked away, crunching chips as they left me to get the broom.
While none of these things are life threatening or really significant, stacked on top of each other they were enough to make one fluffy White Dog and her human throw up paws and hands in a "why me?" gesture of surrender.
And then Quinn awakens from a nap, Mr. Mellow, and strolls out to say, "Chill! Loved Ones! This is nothing...try life on the street." Chastised, White Dog and I cuddle with him and attempt to recalibrate ourselves.
