White Dog and I sat this morning and watched the nest building activity in the tree outside our window. The little momma bird was busy flying to and fro bringing little sticks and bits of grass and fussing on the branch; we were both fascinated. Later in the morning Quinn slept at my feet as I read and White Dog followed her own inner call. I heard her arranging her special soft star blanket, molding it to just the right configuration. The dog door banged several times as she went in and out on some mission. White Dog pranced past us in the living room to search all "her" spots and left carrying Baby Lamb, her new favorite cuddle toy. There was more rustling on the bed. When White Dog came to me asking for something on the table, I had a hard time figuring out that she wanted one of the flowers that I had gotten as a birthday arrangement. I offered one thing after another until I caught her urgent look at the vase and pointed to the flowers; "This?" Puzzled, I gave it to her and then followed her into the bedroom. White Dog was up on the bed lying next to the blanket "nest" she had made. Inside the nest was sticks, the flower, Baby Lamb and Bee! She looked out the window and barked at the momma bird as if to say, "Look, I have a nest, too!" I could not help but smile at White Dog's Shrine to Spring and her pride in its creation.
