March 15, 2010

My advisory team has informed me that the comment-a-thon deadline was a little confusing...and beside why should there be rules when it comes to saving lives? Anyway, All the comments made on the March 14 post plus all of the ones for this post until 11:59pm on the 16th will be counted for the contribution. International comments have no constraints because of silly time changes or the International Dateline...So leave a comment, help an Eskie!

White Dog, my inspiration for so many thing has left her mark on today, my birthday. I will make a donation of twenty-five cents to The ERU (Eskie Rescue Fund) for every birthday comment left on White Dog's blog with today's date of posting. I know over 59 comments have already been left on White Dog's report about the yesterday's party but she and I have a wager going. A lamb shank is at stake over whether I will have more comments than White Dog had for comment-a-thon for Canine Cancer on her Barkday back in December. I offer a virtual cheesecake bribe as an incentive (the real thing was so creamy and rich and sinful yesterday...everyone, two- and four-legged swooned). Please let your friends and friends of friends know...every comment helps the cause of rescuing animals and finding them forever homes. This is my way of paying forward the good fortune and wonderful love that surrounds me.

Today was a gentle family day of celebrating together. Steve took the day off of work and after Quinn received an "all clear" from the vet we brunched at White Dog's favorite hole-in-the-wall, Rincon del Pollo, where she "taught" Quinn the proper way to eat--and enjoy--the best chicken tacos on the planet! We walked along the Bosque, the first time that White Dog and Quinn shared Steve's guidance at co-walking; later we went for a stroll through the Park. Michael, in a show of independence opted to stay home by himself, another first! He calmly checked in and did a fine job of minding the house. His success was a gift of it own kind.

I received flowers...and Judith who at the Party yesterday shared a discussion about the best store-bought cheesecake in town stopped by with her candidate...and tonight's birthday dessert (thank goodness that yesterday's was a delicious memory). We talked to loved ones by phone and opened wonderful wishes from dear friends (snail mail, email, and Facebook). We hugged a lot. We laughed a lot. We all piled on the bed for an afternoon siesta. It was a joyful reminder that "growing old" isn't about what we lose of youth but rather what we gain of life experiences and connections.

I hope tomorrow morning shows that I must write a HUGE check to ERU! I thank everyone who stops by and leaves a comment for being a part of my celebration and for making a difference in the lives of rescue animals...and in our lives as well. With gratitude...White Dog's mom
